The parts that actually fail, in the order they usually fail

Most repair calls come down to a short list of parts, and it isn't random which one goes first. A dirty or clogged filter is the most common culprit: it cuts air flow enough to freeze the coil, and the freeze looks like a much bigger problem than a filter change ever should. After that come thermostats, refrigerant leaks that show up as temperature swings, and drain lines that clog and start leaking water where they shouldn't. Breakers and fuses trip for a reason worth finding, not just resetting. Start and run capacitors wear out from heat cycling and sit behind a large share of calls where the outdoor unit hums but never starts. Past that: the compressor, the evaporator and condenser coils, and a worn contactor. We test for the actual cause before recommending anything, and tell you the exact price for the fix before we touch the equipment.

What happens on the visit

A technician checks the filter, the thermostat, the refrigerant charge, the drain line, the electrical components and the coils, roughly in that order, because that's the order that finds the problem fastest.
